Today I am starting a completely new topic.
I would like to share with you some insights and some ideas around the topic CREATIVITY.
I originally had planned to offer a new kind of workshops that will combine Art (mostly painting, but also other creative fields, if preferred) and Counselling/Coaching and a completely new way. By January 2020 I had already settled for a space, where those workshops could have taken place. But then things changed for all of us. So today I thought, why not share some of mine and your thoughts about creativity to temporarily shorten the time, until I can finally start those creative-workshops.
To understand the benefit of being creative and of my workshops I would like first to answer some basic questions of how creativity is usually perceived and how it can help us to a better and healthier life. Here are some of the questions, I would like to answer for and with you in the future posts of this blog.
What is Creativity? How would you define Creativity?
What are the areas of Creativity?
Is everybody creative?
Can you learn to be creative?
What happens in the brain, when we are creative?
Where in the brain does it happen?
How can being creative alone help me being happy?
What happens when I combine it with Counseling or Coaching?
So many questions - and so many answers.
As a start I am offering you some suggestions of the definition for creativity I found on the internet.
Wikipedia says: “Creativity is a phenomenon whereby something somehow new and somehow valuable is formed. The created item may be intangible (such as an idea, a scientific theory) … or a physical object (such as an invention, … or a painting).”
I am not too sure that I can agree. Being a psychologist I immediately question the use of valuable.
Valuable for whom? Or in relation to what? Value is not absolute! It is always in relation to something, which is not given here. ??
Another explanation I found on the website of one of my colleagues: Creativity is the ability to generate, create, or discover new ideas, solutions, and possibilities.
Peter Lindbergh’s world famous photographer/Artist/Writer says on his website. "Creativity is the basis of self-expression. "
What do you think?
Is any of those correct?
Do you have your own idea about creativity?
Let me know in the comments.
Looking forward to hear your ideas and/or questions.
